Who we are
Pulse-PR has been telling manufacturing stories since November 2003. That is more than two decades spent in one niche: machine tools, cutting tools, metrology, EDM, CAD/CAM, automation, workholding and the wider metal cutting supply chain. We are small and specialist by choice. It means the person who understands your product is the same person writing about it.
Most PR firms that take on engineering clients have to learn the sector second-hand. We started from the other end. Our founder trained on the tools first and picked up the writing later, which is a slightly unusual way round, and it turns out to be the whole point of the business.

The story behind Pulse-PR
- AGE 16
It started in a machine shop
Rhys Williams left school at 16 for an apprenticeship in toolmaking and machining in Maesteg. Four years of it, with day release to college for a City and Guilds in mechanical engineering alongside the graft. He then worked at a string of machine shops around South Wales. The technical detail you read in our work is not borrowed. It comes from someone who has made the parts.
- GRADUATE
From the shop floor to the newsroom
Rhys went on to read Business and Engineering at Southampton, leaving with a 2:1. His first graduate job was at Centaur, one of the UK's leading B2B publishing houses, as Assistant Editor on MWP, the magazine that served the manufacturing and machine tool industry for over 125 years. That is where the publishing and editing side came together. He later wrote across shipbuilding and automotive too, which widened the view a fair bit.
- 2003
Founding Pulse-PR in Maesteg
In 2003, Rhys set up Pulse-PR. Since then the company has served some of the world's most prestigious manufacturing brands, and a good few of those relationships have run for the best part of two decades. He has not stepped away from the editing chair either. He is now the editor of MTD Magazine, a leading title covering CNC machine tools and advanced manufacturing.
What makes us different
Here is the honest version. You’re not hiring a PR person who has read up on manufacturing. You’re hiring a time-served toolmaker and machinist who also happens to be one of the best-connected editors in UK CNC and manufacturing media. Two things at once, and no rival in this space can match both:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
The toolmaker
Twenty-five years of hands-on manufacturing experience, so technical content is written with real fluency rather than translated from an engineer's notes into marketing-speak.
The editor
Editor of MTD Magazine, a leading bi-monthly B2B title covering CNC machine tools and advanced manufacturing, with current insight into what gets commissioned and what gets binned.
No other PR consultancy serving cutting tools, machine tools, metrology, EDM, automation, CAD/CAM, filtration or fluid management can offer both. That combination is the whole pitch.
What we do
- Press and Media RelationsTargeted placement across print, digital, social and web outlets that reach your buyers, from trade press to industry platforms.
- Technical CopywritingPress releases, technical features, white papers and application stories, written by people who understand the products.
- Digital and Social MediaSocial strategy that builds real authority, not just activity for its own sake.
- PR Strategy and PlanningAnnual programmes built around your product roadmap, trade calendar and sales objectives, so everything pulls in the same direction.
Who we work with
Our clients sit right across the advanced manufacturing supply chain: subcontract SMEs, Tier 1 manufacturers and, most of all, OEMs. Think makers of turning centres, machining centres, grinding machines and punch presses, cutting tools, CAM software and workholding, cutting fluid, coolant and filtration, as well as laser, plasma, oxy-fuel and waterjet cutting.
The people who read what we write are usually Managing Directors, Sales Directors, Operations Directors and Senior Managers. Most are in the UK and across Europe, though the work reaches into Asia and the USA as well.
Where we work
We are based in Maesteg, South Wales, and we work nationally and internationally: UK, Europe, Asia and the USA. Where you sit on the map has never mattered much in this trade. Understanding what you make is the part that counts, and that is the part we have covered.
Why work with Pulse-PR
- Specialist manufacturing and engineering PR based in Maesteg, serving clients UK-wide and internationally
- A time-served toolmaker and machinist writing your technical content, not a generalist learning on the job
- Run by the editor of a leading manufacturing title, with inside knowledge of what actually gets covered
- Working with some of the world's most respected manufacturing brands since 2003
- Long-standing partnerships measured in decades, not one-off campaigns
- Content that engages engineers, marketeers and publishers first time
Your story has to convince an engineer and satisfy a marketing team at the same time. We have sat on both sides of that table.Rhys WilliamsFounder, Pulse-PR Ltd
